A repeatable template for entering 即兴 (improvisation) flow state — from cold start to full expression.
The entry problem
"I can't find the feeling" — skating feels disconnected from the music, movements come out robotic and fragmented. This is a cold-start problem, not a skill problem.
The template: progressive warm-up
Songs have intros that build to climaxes. Your skating should mirror this:
Phase 1: 换点 (point-switching)
- Start with simple weight transfers and direction changes
- Build a bridge between your body and the music
- No tricks yet — just feel the pulse
Phase 2: 长短线 (long-short lines)
- Alternate between long sliding lines and short ones
- Increases sliding volume so the overall movement doesn't look fragmented
- Long/short contrast loosely maps to musical dynamics (轻重缓急)
Phase 3: 视觉步伐 (visual footwork)
- Once you have sliding momentum, add visually distinctive moves
- These strengthen the music connection — specific moves for specific musical moments -踩点 (hitting beats) and 跳滑 (jump-slides) to mark musical accents
Phase 4: 高潮自由 (climax freedom)
- By the chorus/climax, you're already warmed up and in state
- Stop thinking about structure — let instinct take over
- The music itself carries you — mistakes get hidden by the energy
- "言出法随" — what you think, your body does
Practical shortcut for beginners
Use the 切分 (segmentation) method:
- Short + long + short move sequences, paired in twos
- This pattern naturally maps to most music without needing music theory
- Enter the cones at the start of a musical phrase
- Exit at the end of a phrase
- In between: 折返四桩 (turnaround at 4 cones) — use simple moves like Crazy or Crazy Legs to buy time while listening
