ηΉθ§ (pivot/compass) β one foot stays on a cone as the pivot point while the other foot arcs around it, like a compass drawing a circle.
ηΉθ§ as a move classβ
ηΉθ§ is both a specific move and a movement category:
- As a class: any move where one foot is the pivot (εεΏ) and the other draws an arc
- Most common basic move in this class: Volt
Volt step-by-stepβ
Step 1 β Setupβ
- Outer-eight stance, right foot near cone line
- Pull left foot back to first cone, bend knees, lower center of gravity
- Fix the pivot foot position
Step 2 β Forward pivot (ζ£ηΉθ§)β
- Shoulder drives the right foot through an arc
- Skating foot arcs to upper side of two-cone gap
- Body rotates 180 degrees
- Keep shoulders balanced, minimize secondary adjustments mid-rotation
Step 3 β Switch pivot footβ
- Between cones 1 and 2, swap which foot is the pivot
- Feet form an isosceles triangle relative to the cone line
- Pull new pivot foot back to cone 3
Step 4 β Reverse pivot (εηΉθ§)β
- Arc the skating foot again, rotating 180 degrees back to starting orientation
- Bring feet together β return to starting position
- Repeatable infinitely
Four-direction pivots (εεηΉθ§)β
Pivots have four states based on foot alignment:
- Inner-eight parallel pivot
- Outer-eight parallel pivot
- Cross inner-eight pivot
- Cross outer-eight pivot (hardest β feels anti-human)
Practice all four in sequence for complete pivot mastery.
Key detailsβ
- Skating foot primarily uses outer edge (ε€ε) during the arc
- The arc foot trajectory = front/back parallel inner/outer-eight + front/back crossed inner/outer-eight
